SLS 15RS-2833 ORIGINAL 2015 Regular Session SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 197 BY SENATOR ADLEY COMMENDATIONS. Commends the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana, Chapter 1, Baton Rouge, for its outstanding work for Louisiana veterans and its Blue Star and Gold Star families. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana, Chapter 1, Baton Rouge, for its 3 outstanding work for Louisiana veterans and its Blue Star and Gold Star families. 4 WHEREAS, the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana, Chapter 1, received its charter in 5 March of 2005, as the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq grew to an all time high of combat troop 6 levels deployed, and the United States pursued its Global War On Terror; and 7 WHEREAS, the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana, Chapter 1, also grew in size as the 8 veteran support group worked furiously to support military families of deployed and fallen 9 armed forces personnel; and 10 WHEREAS, the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana, Chapter 1, soon began to work on 11 projects that helped American forces serving overseas by sending them care packages 12 several times each year, in order to let them know they were not forgotten and their service 13 was greatly appreciated; and 14 WHEREAS, the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana, Chapter 1, also took up the job of 15 hosting the Wreaths Across America Ceremony in Baton Rouge by decorating the graves 16 in the National Cemetery with wreaths each December; and 17 WHEREAS, the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana, Chapter 1, also hosts an annual 18 Gold Star Mothers Day Luncheon where families of fallen American armed forces personnel Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 197 SLS 15RS-2833 ORIGINAL 1 are honored and presented with an Honor and Remember Flag; and 2 WHEREAS, the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana, Chapter 1, has initiated a new and 3 beautiful ceremony each Memorial Day by placing over eleven thousand American flags on 4 the State Capitol grounds to create a garden of flags and conduct a reading of the names of 5 the most recently fallen; and 6 WHEREAS, the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana, Chapter 1, has been recognized 7 both nationally and locally for its many efforts and activities honoring Louisiana's veterans 8 and partner annually with the national Folds of Honor Foundation to recognize fallen and 9 wounded Louisiana veterans with the Patriot Shootout Golf Tournament; and 10 WHEREAS, the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana, Chapter 1, also work with the 11 Louisiana Senate on the Legislature's Military Family Day in the Senate, providing contact 12 information and informing and inviting Gold Star Families to the event where each family 13 is recognized for their sacrifices and losses and is honored individually by the entire Senate. 14 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 15 does hereby extend its highest and most profound commendations to the Blue Star Mothers 16 of Louisiana, Chapter 1, for its tireless efforts on behalf of veterans and their families and 17 for the great honor that the group brings to all Louisiana citizens. 18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Janet 19 Broussard, president of Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana, Chapter 1.
