SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 197

A RESOLUTION
To commend the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana, Chapter 1, Baton Rouge, for its
outstanding work for Louisiana veterans and its Blue Star and Gold Star families.
WHEREAS, the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana, Chapter 1, received its charter in
March of 2005, as the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq grew to an all-time high of combat troop
levels deployed, and the United States pursued its Global War On Terror; and
WHEREAS, the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana, Chapter 1, also grew in size as the
veteran support group worked furiously to support military families of deployed and fallen
armed forces personnel; and
WHEREAS, the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana, Chapter 1, soon began to work on
projects that helped American forces serving overseas by sending them care packages
several times each year, in order to let them know they were not forgotten and their service
was greatly appreciated; and
WHEREAS, the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana, Chapter 1, also took up the job of
hosting the Wreaths Across America Ceremony in Baton Rouge by decorating the graves
in the National Cemetery with wreaths each December; and
WHEREAS, the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana, Chapter 1, also hosts an annual
Gold Star Mothers Day Luncheon where families of fallen American armed forces personnel
are honored and presented with an Honor and Remember Flag; and
WHEREAS, the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana, Chapter 1, has initiated a new and
beautiful ceremony each Memorial Day by placing over eleven thousand American flags on
the State Capitol grounds to create a garden of flags and conduct a reading of the names of
the most recently fallen; and
WHEREAS, the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana, Chapter 1, has been recognized
both nationally and locally for its many efforts and activities honoring Louisiana's veterans
and partner annually with the national Folds of Honor Foundation to recognize fallen and
wounded Louisiana veterans with the Patriot Shootout Golf Tournament; and

WHEREAS, the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana, Chapter 1, also work with the
Louisiana Senate on the Legislature's Military Family Day in the Senate, providing contact
information and informing and inviting Gold Star Families to the event where each family
is recognized for their sacrifices and losses and is honored individually by the entire Senate.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby extend its highest and most profound commendations to the Blue Star Mothers
of Louisiana, Chapter 1, for its tireless efforts on behalf of veterans and their families and
for the great honor that the group brings to all Louisiana citizens.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Janet Broussard, president of Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana, Chapter 1.
