SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 198

A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate Coach Shay Herpin, Head Coach of the Class 3A Kaplan
High School Lady Pirates Softball Team, on being selected as Class 3A Coach of the
Year.
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens of Vermilion Parish and the Senate
of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the selection of Coach Shay Herpin of the
Kaplan High School Lady Pirates Softball Team as Class 3A Coach of the Year; and 
WHEREAS, Coach Herpin guided the Kaplan squad to a District 8-3A championship
with a 7-2 record, a No. 3 seed in the playoffs, the state finals before falling by a 4-3 final
score, and a 24-5 record; and 
WHEREAS, he was the 2014 Vermilion Parish Coach of the Year as the Lady Pirates
finished the season with a 22-5 overall record, winning the Class 6-3A District
Championship with a 9-1 record, being number two overall seed in Class 3A, earning a slot
in the state championship tournament, before losing in the quarterfinal round; and
WHEREAS, the Kaplan coach was also the 2013 All-Parish Coach of the Year, when
the squad posted a 22-6 overall record and a 8-2 district mark; and
WHEREAS, Coach Herpin started out as a classroom teacher, but saw the kids
practicing every day when he was leaving the school and became an assistant coach; and 
WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,
and the overall vitality of American society depends, in great measure, upon the dedication
of men like Shay Herpin who dedicate themselves to teaching, coaching, mentoring, and
molding our future generations. 
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate Shay Herpin, Head Coach of the Kaplan High
School Lady Pirates Softball Team, on being selected as Class 3A Coach of the Year.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Shay Herpin.
