"Bobby" Welch on the occasion of his retirement as president of The Dunham School in Baton Rouge and commends him on over forty years of service in the field of education. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To congratulate Robert W. "Bobby" Welch on the occasion of his retirement as president of 3 The Dunham School in Baton Rouge and to commend him on over forty years of 4 service in the field of education. 5 WHEREAS, Robert W. Welch was born on July 23, 1945, in Vaiden, Mississippi, 6 and graduated from Forest Hill High School in Jackson, Mississippi; and 7 WHEREAS, Bobby received a Business Administration degree from William Carey 8 University, a Master of Arts in Education Administration from the University of Louisiana 9 at Monroe, and performed post-graduate studies at Harvard University, the University of 10 West Florida and Georgia Southern University; and 11 WHEREAS, he is a veteran of forty plus years in education, with thirty years of his 12 experience in independent private schools in the southeastern United States; and 13 WHEREAS, Bobby is active in the National Association of Independent Schools, 14 Southern Association of Independent Schools, and several other regional organizations, 15 having served as Regional Director, Officer and Board Member for many of these groups; 16 and 17 WHEREAS, he also has been a member of the Southern Association of Colleges and 18 Schools for ten years; and Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 221 SLS 15RS-3879 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, he is the founder of the Louisiana Association of Independent Schools 2 and currently serves as its executive director; and 3 WHEREAS, for the last ten years, Bobby has served as headmaster and later 4 president of The Dunham School in Baton Rouge; and 5 WHEREAS, under his leadership, Dunham has reached new heights in quality of 6 education and won national acclaim as a Blue Ribbon School and as an Apple Distinguished 7 School, while maintaining its academic philosophy of providing a Christian education that 8 emphasizes not simply acquiring knowledge, but attaining wisdom, and that wisdom is 9 knowledge shaped by the realization of where one stands in relationship to God and by the 10 recognition that the order and beauty seen in the universe is the product of the Creator's 11 hand; and 12 WHEREAS, Bobby has been married to the former Pamela Culler of High Point, 13 North Carolina for thirty-five years; and 14 WHEREAS, they have five children: Angela, Jeff, Amy, Kip, and Charles; and 15 fifteen grandchildren: Millie, Annie, Ellie, Jack, Wils, Sam, Jena Kate, Charlotte, Cade, 16 Olivia, Josh, Andrew, Molly, Charlie, and Hudson; and 17 WHEREAS, Bobby is retiring from his position as president of The Dunham School 18 effective June 30, 2015, and plans to continue building an education consulting company 19 after his retirement. 20 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 21 does hereby congratulate Robert W. "Bobby" Welch on the occasion of his retirement as 22 president of The Dunham School in Baton Rouge and commend him on over forty years of 23 service in the field of education. 24 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 25 Robert W.
