SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 226

COMMENDATIONS. Commends William J. Nunez III on his retirement after 45 years in
higher education.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend Dr. William J. Nunez III upon his retirement after forty-five years in higher
3 education and to recognize his dedication to Louisiana students.
4 WHEREAS, William J. Nunez III earned a bachelor's degree in zoology and
5 chemistry and a master's degree in microbiology and biochemistry from Louisiana State
6 University, and a doctorate in immunology/microbiology from the University of North
7 Texas; and
8 WHEREAS, for forty-five years, Dr. William J. Nunez III has been a leader in
9 academia and campus administration, rising through faculty ranks to serve as chancellor of
10 Louisiana State University-Eunice; and
11 WHEREAS, Dr. Nunez was named chancellor of LSU-Eunice in 1996 after serving
12 as a professor and chairman of Biology and Health Sciences at the University of Detroit, the
13 dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Missouri Western State University, and the vice
14 chancellor for Academic Affairs at Indiana University-Kokomo; and
15 WHEREAS, during Dr. Nunez's sixteen-year tenure as chancellor, LSU-Eunice
16 became a competitive regional institution that has earned the support and respect of the
17 community and the state; and
18 WHEREAS, LSU-Eunice has achieved reaccreditation twice under the leadership of

1 Dr. Nunez while the institution has grown in size, become more technologically advanced,
2 and increased its academic standards, and the university continues to provide critical access
3 to higher education for students in the Acadiana region; and
4 WHEREAS, Dr. Nunez created development and awards programs for LSU-Eunice
5 faculty and staff; he also implemented the Program Appraisal Process and the Advanced
6 College Program, which served as the precursor for the dual-enrollment program within the
7 Board of Regents; and
8 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the achievements of this outstanding
9 higher education administrator upon his retirement after forty-five years of service.
10 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
11 does hereby commend Dr. William J. Nunez III upon the occasion of his retirement after
12 forty-five years of service in higher education; does hereby express the gratitude of the
13 citizens of the state for his contributions to the learning and development of young minds;
14 and does hereby extend best wishes for a rich and full life in his retirement years.
15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Dr.
16 William J. Nunez III.
