Expresses sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Oscar Robertson Jr. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the 3 death of Oscar Robertson Jr. 4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the passing of Oscar 5 Robertson Jr. on April 13, 2015, at age fifty-nine, has been learned; and 6 WHEREAS, a native and resident of St. Francisville, Louisiana, he was born on 7 September 14, 1955, to the late Oscar Robertson Sr. and Louise Crump Robertson, and in 8 the summer of 1964, he accepted Christ and was baptized at eight years old by the late Rev. 9 B. Alex Gibson at the Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church of St. Francisville; and 10 WHEREAS, Oscar Robertson Jr. was educated at St. Francisville Elementary in 11 1973, graduated from St. Francisville High School, and in 1978, earned a Bachelor's degree 12 in Marketing/Management from Southern University in Baton Rouge; and 13 WHEREAS, he married Gigi Thomas on September 24, 1994, and they were married 14 for over twenty years and blessed with one son, Isaiah Matthew Amoz Robertson; and 15 WHEREAS, Oscar's professional career included positions with Stone & Webster 16 and later with Entergy Corporation (formerly Gulf States Utilities) where he worked for over 17 thirty years until he became disabled; and 18 WHEREAS, he loved serving his community as a former Rotarian, Planning and Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 30 SLS 15RS-734 ORIGINAL 1 Zoning Commissioner for the town of St. Francisville, and ultimately, in 1993, being elected 2 the first African American alderman for the town of St. Francisville where he served 3 honorably until his death; and 4 WHEREAS, Oscar's hobbies and favorite pastimes included listening to jazz music, 5 reading Popular Mechanics magazine, watching the Atlanta Braves baseball team play, 6 cruising the oceans, and enjoying life; and 7 WHEREAS, he served as a member and deacon at Greater New Hope Baptist Church 8 in Zachary and was affiliated with Jack and Jill of America, Inc., Baton Rouge Chapter; and 9 WHEREAS, Oscar Robertson Jr. was preceded in death by his parents and 10 grandparents and brother-in-law, Rev. Louis V. Green; and 11 WHEREAS, loving memories of this blessed and honorable man will be cherished 12 by his wife, Gigi T. Robertson; his son, Isaiah M. A. Robertson; his two sisters, Ruby 13 Robertson-Green and Debbie Robertson-Jones; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rev. 14 Nathaniel and Dorothy Thomas; his brother-in-law, Minister Fabian (Cynthia) Thomas; his 15 two goddaughters, Megan Hulbert and Addison Scott; his aunts, Marguerite Judson, Annie 16 Lee Brown, Hattie (Eugene) Kemp, and Sarah (Robert) Hayes; his uncles, George (Laverne) 17 Brown, Willie Brown, and Edward (Mildred) Brown; his nephew, James A. "Jamie" Jones; 18 his favorite pet, Melody Robertson; and many other relatives and friends; and 19 WHEREAS, the success of our state, the strength of our communities, and the overall 20 vitality of American society depend, in great measure, on people like Oscar Robertson Jr. 21 who dedicated his life and his considerable talents, gifts, and resources to the betterment of 22 his community. 23 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 24 does hereby extend sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of Oscar Robertson Jr. 25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 26 wife of Oscar Robertson Jr., Gigi T.
