SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 6
BY SENATOR MILLS 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Jacques Laviolette on achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To commend Jacques Laviolette upon achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.
3 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend and celebrate the accomplishments of
4 Jacques Laviolette of Boy Scouts of America Troop 55 on the occasion of his attainment of
5 the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout; and
6 WHEREAS, the purpose of the Boy Scouts of America, incorporated on February
7 8, 1910, and chartered by the United States Congress in 1916, is to provide an educational
8 program for boys and young men to build character, to train in the responsibilities of
9 participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness; and
10 WHEREAS, to earn the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in scouting, a Boy
11 Scout must fulfill all requirements in the areas of leadership, service, and outdoor skills, and
12 the Eagle Scout must earn twenty-one merit badges which signify the mastery of Scoutcraft
13 skills, including Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, and Citizenship
14 in the World; and
15 WHEREAS, in his scouting endeavors, as well as in life in general, Jacques has had
16 excellent mentors and role models, including his older brother, Trey, who attained the rank
17 of Eagle Scout in 2012; his father, Bernard, who earned the rank of Eagle in 1985; and his
18 mother, Nessie, who has served as assistant Cub Scout den mother; and

1 WHEREAS, in addition to the merit badges he has earned in scouting, Jacques has
2 been active in school activities beyond the classroom, attending St. Cecilia School in
3 Broussard, Louisiana, through the spring of 2014 where he was a member of Junior Beta
4 Club, an academic honorary club, was active in youth ministry, played golf, soccer, and
5 baseball, and was awarded Christian Leader of the Year for the 2010-2011 school year; and
6 WHEREAS, moving on to high school at Teurlings Catholic High School in
7 Lafayette, Jacques has been a hard-working student, becoming involved in Christian retreats
8 and class community service projects; and
9 WHEREAS, Jacques has been involved in his community outside of school and
10 while at St. Cecilia, he participated in a class project of serving lunch to the homeless at St.
11 Joseph's Diner; and
12 WHEREAS, Jacques Laviolette was a member of a Broussard youth group, attended
13 faith camp in 2012 and, also, attended various service projects with Broussard Scout
14 Troop 55; and
15 WHEREAS, Jacques is involved in his family life, being especially attentive to his
16 ninety-year-old great-grandmother, visiting her weekly and helping her with yard work and
17 household chores; and
18 WHEREAS, Jacques manages to keep busy apart from school and scouting as he
19 raises rabbits, mows lawns, catches crawfish in season, and works at his family's sugarcane
20 farm when he is not in school; and
21 WHEREAS, Jacques' accomplishment of earning the rank of Eagle Scout is but a part
22 of the life he leads, helping his family and friends, serving his community, and learning
23 every day to be the best person and citizen that he can be, a lofty goal, indeed.
24 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
25 does hereby commend Jacques Laviolette upon achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.
26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
27 Jacques Laviolette.
