SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 61
BY SENATOR BROOME 
SENATE.  Recognizes Tuesday, April 28, 2015, as March of Dimes Day at the Louisiana
State Capitol.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To recognize Tuesday, April 28, 2015, as "March of Dimes Day" at the Louisiana State
3 Capitol.
4 WHEREAS, the March of Dimes was founded in 1938 by President Franklin D.
5 Roosevelt and supported the development of the polio vaccine which eradicated the disease
6 from the United States; and
7 WHEREAS, the same polio vaccine continues to protect babies today, and through
8 the support of the March of Dimes, there has not been a single outbreak of polio in the
9 United States in more than thirty years; and
10 WHEREAS, in Louisiana, over sixty-two thousand babies are born each year, and
11 over nine thousand of those babies are born prematurely; and
12 WHEREAS, the March of Dimes has helped each and every one of those babies
13 through extensive research, education, vaccines, and scientific discoveries; and
14 WHEREAS, on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, March of Dimes volunteers and staff from
15 across the state are visiting the Louisiana state capitol to raise awareness about the serious
16 need to protect Louisiana babies and to advocate for policies that improve the quality of care
17 for Louisiana moms and babies.
18 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana

1 does hereby welcome volunteers and staff of the March of Dimes and does hereby recognize
2 Tuesday, April 28, 2015, as "March of Dimes Day" at the Louisiana State Capitol.
3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all Louisiana citizens are hereby encouraged to
4 support the March of Dimes in its research efforts to find the causes of preterm birth and
5 reduce the number of birth defects, premature births, and infant mortalities.
6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
7 state director of the March of Dimes, Louisiana Chapter.
