Recognizes April 29, 2015, as Municipal Day at the Louisiana State Capitol. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To recognize April 29, 2015, as "Municipal Day" at the Louisiana State Capitol. 3 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Municipal Association (LMA) was founded in 1926 as 4 a nonprofit 501(c)4 organization serving as a unified voice for Louisiana's municipal 5 governments; and 6 WHEREAS, the LMA is a statewide member organization that advocates on the 7 behalf of 303 municipalities and two parishes; and 8 WHEREAS, the LMA includes five subsidiaries, namely, Risk Management, Inc., 9 Louisiana Municipal Advisory and Technical Services Bureau, Louisiana Municipal Gas 10 Authority, Louisiana Community Development Authority, and Louisiana Municipal 11 Association of Unemployment Compensation Program; and 12 WHEREAS, the LMA encompasses six affiliate and associated entities, including 13 the Louisiana Association of Tax Administrators, Louisiana Parks and Recreation 14 Association, Louisiana City Attorney's Association, Louisiana Municipal Clerks 15 Association, Louisiana Association of Municipal Secretaries and Assistants, and Building 16 Officials Association of Louisiana; and 17 WHEREAS, representation from the advisory entities and also from the Municipal 18 Employees Retirement System of Louisiana, the Louisiana Fire Chiefs Association, the Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 62 SLS 15RS-984 ORIGINAL 1 Louisiana Airport Managers and Associates, the Louisiana Conference of Mayors, the 2 Louisiana Municipal Black Caucus Association, and the Louisiana Association of Chiefs of 3 Police Association is included on the LMA Board of Directors; and 4 WHEREAS, the core of the LMA's mission is to advocate, educate, and empower 5 local governments to serve the citizens of Louisiana efficiently and effectively; and 6 WHEREAS, the LMA provides numerous programs and services to its member 7 municipalities, including conferences and trainings, LaMATS' sponsored Delinquent 8 Property Tax and Insurance Premium Tax Programs, Computer Information Technology 9 Assistance Program, and webinars; and 10 WHEREAS, the LMA continues to promote local governments by shaping 11 legislation, providing education on municipal issues, and exchanging ideas and experiences 12 among elected official leaders throughout the state; and 13 WHEREAS, on April 29, 2015, the LMA will host its Annual Municipal Day and 14 Legislative Conference celebrating all municipal officials and employees for their dedication 15 to public service. 16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 17 does hereby recognize April 29, 2015, as "Municipal Day" at the Louisiana State Capitol. 18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 19 executive director of the Louisiana Municipal Association.
