SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 63

COMMENDATIONS. Commends Adriana Martin on becoming ranked in the United States
and World Pi Ranking at the age of seven as a second grader.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend and congratulate Adriana Martin on becoming ranked in the United States and
3 World Pi Ranking at the age of seven as a second grader.
4 WHEREAS, Southfield School math specialists started a Pi Day challenge for all
5 kindergarten through eighth-grade students to learn as many digits of Pi as possible; and
6 WHEREAS, Adriana Martin showed incredible talent and success at the early age
7 of five and has exceeded her own goals to become ranked in the United States and World
8 Pi Ranking at the age of seven as a second grader; and
9 WHEREAS, Adriana wrote the number of Pi from memory without any outside help
10 and without any errors with an accuracy of 1,420 digits on March 13, 2015, more than
11 doubling last year's 603; and
12 WHEREAS, she ranks first in the United States and world for youngest performance
13 by a seven-year old; and
14 WHEREAS, Adriana ranks 25th in the United States for all ages and 69th in the
15 world for all ages; and
16 WHEREAS, it took her one hour and fifteen minutes to recite; and
17 WHEREAS, Adriana goes over the digits in the morning on the 15-minute drive to
18 school with her father, learning the numbers from January to March this year; and

1 WHEREAS, Adriana says she likes to "see them in my head a little"; and
2 WHEREAS, Adrianna's goal for next year is 3,000 to 5,000 numbers of Pi; and
3 WHEREAS, when she grows up, Adriana says she wants to be a doctor, an Imagineer
4 at Disney, a Barbie maker, or a teacher; and
5 WHEREAS, Adriana also loves swimming, plays violin, and does gymnastics; and
6 WHEREAS, Adriana is a role model for other students and is worthy of emulation
7 and public recognition and is a source of pride for her parents, Robert and Stacy Martin of
8 Shreveport, and family and friends; and
9 WHEREAS, she deserves to be honored and respected for her knowledge and
10 distinction and for being competitive and self-driven.
11 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
12 does hereby commend and congratulate Adriana Martin on becoming ranked in the United
13 States and World Pi Ranking at the age of seven as a second grader.
14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
15 Adriana Martin.
