SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 69

COMMENDATIONS. Commends Victor Rushing, a senior at Live Oak High School, on
being named the Louisiana High School Student of the Year.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend and congratulate Victor Rushing on being named the Louisiana High School
3 Student of the Year and to recognize his extraordinary accomplishments.
4 WHEREAS, the Student of the Year Awards Program is sponsored by the Louisiana
5 State Superintendent through the State Department of Education and the State Board of
6 Elementary and Secondary Education; and
7 WHEREAS, the program recognizes those students who have demonstrated excellent
8 academic achievement, leadership ability, and citizenship; and
9 WHEREAS, Victor Rushing is a senior at Live Oak High School in Denham Springs;
10 and
11 WHEREAS, he is an accomplished, classically trained pianist having played the
12 piano since he was in the first grade, and been the recipient of numerous superior ratings and
13 various honors at prestigious state and district music competitions; and
14 WHEREAS, Victor is a member of the following organizations: Beta Club, National
15 Honor Society, student council, National Society of High School Scholars, Mu Alpha Theta,
16 Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Future Business Leaders of America; and
17 WHEREAS, he is the senior class president, student council president, serves as
18 chaplain for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and is the manager for the baseball team;

2 WHEREAS, for the past four years Victor has been a volunteer for the Special
3 Olympics, and oversees the video broadcast system at Live Oak United Methodist Church;
4 and
5 WHEREAS, he founded a group of student mentors who tutor at-risk students, assist
6 them in succeeding academically, and encourage them to remain in school; and
7 WHEREAS, Victor plans to attend Tulane University on a legislative scholarship and
8 pursue a Juris Doctor degree at either Georgetown University Law Center or Yale Law
9 School; and
10 WHEREAS, Victor Rushing, the son of Dana and Jodi Rushing, is a talented
11 Louisiana student who demonstrates impeccable leadership and a commitment to excellence
12 that is truly commendable and deserving of being selected as Louisiana High School Student
13 of the Year.
14 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
15 does hereby commend and congratulate Victor Rushing on being named the Louisiana High
16 School Student of the Year, does hereby recognize his extraordinary accomplishments, and
17 wish him continued success in all of his future endeavors.
18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
19 Victor Rushing.
