Recognizes Tuesday, April 14, 2015, as Coastal Day at the State Capitol. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To recognize Tuesday, April 14, 2015, as "Coastal Day" at the Louisiana State Capitol. 3 WHEREAS, Louisiana's coast and its communities, businesses, and natural resources 4 are of the utmost importance to the welfare of the state; and 5 WHEREAS, the health and sustainability of our coastal area is under constant threat 6 from regular tidal action, storm surge, saltwater intrusion, sea level rise, subsidence, and 7 other natural and manmade influences; and 8 WHEREAS, Louisiana's coast can be sustained through the establishment of an 9 integrated system of protection and restoration; and 10 WHEREAS, over the past several years, the state has enjoyed great success in 11 reducing land loss rates and improving hurricane protection along the coast through the 12 coordinated efforts of integrated coastal protection; and 13 WHEREAS, there will be critical items to address in the coming year related to 14 sustaining the coast, including implementing the state's Coastal Master Plan through 15 designing and constructing hundreds of millions of dollars in restoration and protection 16 projects and continuing ecosystem restoration related to the Deepwater Horizon disaster; and 17 WHEREAS, the creation of this system to sustain and restore our state's coastal areas 18 in the coming years will require continued robust funding and efficient program Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 8 SLS 15RS-610 ORIGINAL 1 administration from federal, state, and local governments; and 2 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to set aside a special day each year to recognize the 3 value of Louisiana's coast, highlight the challenges faced by the coastal communities, and 4 support the work needed to sustain the coast, an area of the state vital to the economic and 5 social health of the entire state. 6 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 7 does hereby recognize Tuesday, April 14, 2015, as "Coastal Day" at the Louisiana State 8 Capitol.
