SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 83

COMMENDATIONS. Commends Landa Gann for her dedication and hard work in the
Special Olympics Louisiana Program and as an athletics coach in the 2014 Special Olympics
USA Games in New Jersey.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend and congratulate Landa Gann for her strong dedication and hard work in the
3 Special Olympics Louisiana Program and as an athletics coach in the 2014 Special
4 Olympics USA Games.
5 WHEREAS, Special Olympics Louisiana is a statewide organization that changes
6 lives by promoting understanding, acceptance, and inclusion between people with and
7 without intellectual disabilities; and
8 WHEREAS, Special Olympics Louisiana offers year-round programs for 14,200
9 children and adults with intellectual disabilities in all sixty-four parishes with the help of
10 15,000 volunteers; and
11 WHEREAS, Special Olympics Louisiana selected a delegation of sixteen athletes,
12 ten unified partners, and eight coaches from the Acadiana Area to attend the third Special
13 Olympics USA Games held on June 14-21, 2014, in New Jersey; and
14 WHEREAS, the Acadiana Area brought home a total of twenty Gold medals, five
15 Silver medals, nine Bronze medals, nine fourth place ribbons, two fifth place ribbons, one
16 seventh place ribbon, one eighth place ribbon, and one participation ribbon, totaling
17 forty-eight awards; and
18 WHEREAS, these Special Olympics Louisiana athletes, unified partners, and

1 coaches have exhibited great sportsmanship, talent, and respect and have represented
2 Louisiana with honor and pride.
3 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
4 hereby commends Landa Gann for her strong dedication and hard work in the Special
5 Olympics Louisiana Program and as an athletics coach in the 2014 Special Olympics USA
6 Games.
7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
8 Landa Gann.
