SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 94

COMMENDATIONS. Commends Nicholls State University senior biology student
Anthony Naquin for being selected to present his research as part of the recent Posters on
the Hill exhibition in Washington D.C.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend Nicholls State University senior biology student Anthony Naquin for being
3 selected to present his research as part of the recent Posters on the Hill exhibition in
4 Washington D.C.
5 WHEREAS, Anthony Naquin, a resident of Thibodaux, is a senior biology student
6 at Nicholls State University; and
7 WHEREAS, he has been conducting research on antibiotic resistant genes and
8 bacteria under the direction of Nicholls professor Dr. Ramaraj Boopathy; and
9 WHEREAS, Anthony's research was originally conducted for a Nicholls biology
10 seminar and was approved for publication in the Journal of Water Sustainability and the
11 scholarly publication, Bioresource Technology; and
12 WHEREAS, his research focuses on the presence of antibiotic genes and bacteria in
13 the Thibodaux sewage treatment plant; and
14 WHEREAS, Anthony was one of sixty students, and the only one from Louisiana,
15 out of over five hundred applicants, selected to present his research at the Posters on the Hill
16 exhibition in April of this year; and
17 WHEREAS, the Posters on the Hill exhibition takes place annually at the Rayburn
18 House Office Building on Capitol Hill and is hosted by the Council on Undergraduate

1 Research; and
2 WHEREAS, Anthony is a graduate of E.D. White Catholic High School and plans
3 to attend the Louisiana State University School of Medicine this fall.
4 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
5 does hereby commend Nicholls State University senior biology student Anthony Naquin for
6 being selected to present his research as part of the recent Posters on the Hill exhibition in
7 Washington D.C.
8 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
9 Anthony Naquin.
