Expresses condolences on the death of Captain Shreve High School coach, Richard Alan Lary. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the 3 death of Captain Shreve High School coach, Richard Alan Lary. 4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the citizens of Louisiana 5 learned of the death of Richard Alan Lary on April 25, 2015, at the age of forty-nine; and 6 WHEREAS, Richard Alan Lary was a native of Montgomery and graduated from 7 Northwestern State University in 1987, with a bachelor of science degree and honor roll 8 distinction; and 9 WHEREAS, he was a long-time teacher and coach in Caddo Parish; and 10 WHEREAS, Richard was a student teacher at Southwood High School before 11 becoming the football and softball coach at Woodlawn High School; and 12 WHEREAS, he also coached football and softball at Huntington High School and 13 C.E. Byrd High School; and 14 WHEREAS, in 2009, Richard achieved his lifelong dream of being a head coach 15 when he was named the head football coach at Captain Shreve High School where he 16 remained until his sudden and untimely passing; and 17 WHEREAS, attending Captain Shreve High School sporting events was a family 18 affair and he was thrilled to have his oldest daughter, Ally, at the Swamp with him this year Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 99 SLS 15RS-1240 ORIGINAL 1 and was counting down the years until his youngest daughter, Camryn, would be able to join 2 them; and 3 WHEREAS, Richard made long-lasting impressions on students and athletes by 4 teaching them numerous life lessons on and off of the field; and 5 WHEREAS, he was a role model and everyone's coach even if you did not play; and 6 WHEREAS, Richard never met a stranger and was always joking and assigning 7 nicknames; and 8 WHEREAS, Principal Sandra McCalla described him as endearing and courageous, 9 with a go-getting attitude; and 10 WHEREAS, Richard was dedicated to his Captain Shreve High School family and 11 was fond of saying, "If you opened me up and saw my heart, you'd see green and gold."; and 12 WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his father, Alva Roy Lary; his sister, 13 Martha Lynn Lary; and mother-in-law, Ann Booty; and 14 WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife, Rebecca "Becky" Booty Lary; daughters, 15 Ally Grace and Camryn Sloan; his mother, Joann Lary; his father-in-law, Ronnie Booty; 16 sisters-in-law, Leigh Woodruff and Lesley Amos; nieces and nephews, Abby and Jaci 17 Woodruff, and Reagan and David Amos; and 18 WHEREAS, the death of Richard Alan Lary has left a great void in his community 19 and created a genuine sense of sorrow in all who knew him, particularly those he coached 20 and those who love high school football and softball, all of whom mourn the loss of this 21 wonderful man; and 22 WHEREAS, Richard Alan Lary leaves behind a rich legacy in high school football 23 and softball and will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives he 24 touched. 25 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 26 does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Captain Shreve 27 High School coach, Richard Alan Lary, and does hereby record for posterity the enduring 28 appreciation of the citizens of Louisiana for his outstanding contributions and achievements 29 in the areas of high school football and softball.
