SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH:  Recognizes March 7-13, 2016, as Multiple Sclerosis
Awareness Week
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To recognize March 7-13, 2016, as Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week at the state capitol.
3 WHEREAS, multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological disease of the central nervous
4system that affects more than two million people worldwide; and
5 WHEREAS, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society–Louisiana Chapter is
6committed to creating a world free of MS, heightening public knowledge about the disease,
7and mobilizing people and resources so that everyone affected by MS can live their best
8lives; and
9 WHEREAS, since 1946, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society has been a driving
10force of MS research, relentlessly pursuing prevention, treatment, and a cure, and has
11invested more than nine hundred twenty million dollars in groundbreaking research; and
12 WHEREAS, funds raised through the National Multiple Sclerosis Society fuel the
13efforts of more than three hundred eighty research projects globally, totaling nearly fifty-
14four million dollars annually at the best medical centers, universities, and other institutions
15throughout the United States and abroad; and
16 WHEREAS, researchers are working tirelessly to stop MS in its tracks, restore what
17has been lost, and end this debilitating disease forever; and
18 WHEREAS, discovering the cause, finding a cure, and preventing future generations
19from being diagnosed with MS are important tasks that Louisianians should support; and

1 WHEREAS, Louisiana citizens recognize the importance of finding the cause and
2cure of MS, and appreciate and admire the dedication the National Multiple Sclerosis
3Society–Louisiana Chapter has shown toward a future free of this chronic and often
4devastating disease.
5 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
6recognize March 7-13, 2016, as Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week at the state capitol; does
7hereby commend the National Multiple Sclerosis Society–Louisiana Chapter for its efforts
8towards creating a world free of MS; and does hereby encourage all Louisianians to learn
9more about multiple sclerosis and support individuals with MS and their families.
10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
11to the executive director of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society–Louisiana Chapter.
