ENROLLED 2016 First Extraordinary Session HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 12 BY REPRESENTATIVE BARRAS A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To recognize March 7-13, 2016, as Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week at the state capitol. WHEREAS, multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological disease of the central nervous system that affects more than two million people worldwide; and WHEREAS, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society–Louisiana Chapter is committed to creating a world free of MS, heightening public knowledge about the disease, and mobilizing people and resources so that everyone affected by MS can live their best lives; and WHEREAS, since 1946, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society has been a driving force of MS research, relentlessly pursuing prevention, treatment, and a cure, and has invested more than nine hundred twenty million dollars in groundbreaking research; and WHEREAS, funds raised through the National Multiple Sclerosis Society fuel the efforts of more than three hundred eighty research projects globally, totaling nearly fifty- four million dollars annually at the best medical centers, universities, and other institutions throughout the United States and abroad; and WHEREAS, researchers are working tirelessly to stop MS in its tracks, restore what has been lost, and end this debilitating disease forever; and WHEREAS, discovering the cause, finding a cure, and preventing future generations from being diagnosed with MS are important tasks that Louisianians should support; and WHEREAS, Louisiana citizens recognize the importance of finding the cause and cure of MS, and appreciate and admire the dedication the National Multiple Sclerosis Society–Louisiana Chapter has shown toward a future free of this chronic and often devastating disease. Page 1 of 2 HCR NO. 12 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize March 7-13, 2016, as Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week at the state capitol; does hereby commend the National Multiple Sclerosis Society–Louisiana Chapter for its efforts towards creating a world free of MS; and does hereby encourage all Louisianians to learn more about multiple sclerosis and support individuals with MS and their families. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the executive director of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society–Louisiana Chapter.
