ENROLLED 2016 First Extraordinary Session HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 8 BY REPRESENTATIVES DWIGHT, ABRAHAM, DANAHAY, AND FRANKLIN AND SENATORS JOHNS AND MORRISH A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend John Rudd upon the retirement of his McNeese State University basketball jersey number, 52, and its placement among the Honored Numbers of the institution's athletic finest. WHEREAS, number 52 was worn by John Rudd during his basketball career at McNeese State, which spanned from 1975 to 1978; and WHEREAS, Mr. Rudd was inducted into the McNeese Sports Hall of Fame in 1986, a testament to his prolific performances: he played on teams that won twenty games in 1976- 1977, with a record of 20-7, and in 1977-1978, with a record of 20-8; in 1975 and 1978, the DeRidder native contributed to Southland Conference titles for McNeese; he earned first team all-conference honors in 1977 and 1978, and was a three-time conference rebounding champion; and WHEREAS, Mr. Rudd finished at McNeese State as the second leading all-time rebounder in the school's history with 1,181 total rebounds and an average of 11.6 rebounds per game over his collegiate career; and WHEREAS, Mr. Rudd set a record at the university in 1976 with an average of 13.7 rebounds per game and posted a career single game high 26 rebounds against Rice that year; and WHEREAS, the Southland Conference named John Rudd to the 1970s All-Decade Team, and he holds the honor of being twice named Most Valuable Player at McNeese State University; and Page 1 of 2 HCR NO. 8 ENROLLED WHEREAS, the number 52 worn by John Rudd will forever hang in the rafters at McNeese State, and it is fitting to herald his legacy as his basketball jersey number joins that of Joe Dumars (number 4), Stan Kernan (number 25), Bill Reigel (number 33), Frank Glenn (number 34), and Edmond Lawrence (number 40) in the rarefied air of the university's home venue of Burton Coliseum. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend John Rudd upon achieving the ranks of the athletic Honored Numbers at McNeese State University with the retirement of his jersey number, 52, and does hereby express best wishes for happiness in the years to come.
