HLS 161ES-212 ORIGINAL 2016 First Extraordinary Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 11 BY REPRESENTATIVE JONES COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Reverend Dr. Charles Oatis, Sr., upon his seventeenth pastoral anniversary 1 A RESOLUTION 2To commend the Reverend Doctor Charles Oatis, Sr., upon the seventeenth anniversary of 3 his pastorate of Mount Esther Baptist Church of Morgan City. 4 WHEREAS, Charles Oatis was baptized at Greater Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church 5of Donaldsonville in 1976; in 1991, he was licensed to preach, and ordination to the ministry 6soon followed in 1994; and 7 WHEREAS, Rev. Oatis matriculated at Nicholls State University, Southern 8University, Union Baptist College and Theological Seminary of New Orleans, and received 9his doctorate of theology from Christian Bible College of Baton Rouge; and 10 WHEREAS, throughout the course of his ministry, the Reverend Dr. Oatis has 11labored untiringly in his Master's vineyard, sowing seeds of learning as Sunday school 12superintendent, Bible study instructor, associate minister, deacon class instructor, pastor 13support chairperson, and Christian education workshop coordinator; and 14 WHEREAS, his life's work is not contained only within the realm of religion: 15Dr. Oatis has been a member of the city of Donaldsonville Charter Commission, the Capital 16Regional Planning Commission, the Southern University Master of Public Administration 17Association, the Omicron Psi Lambda graduate chapter, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity; and 18 WHEREAS, in 1998, the Reverend Dr. Charles Oatis, Sr., was elected pastor of 19Mount Esther Baptist Church of Morgan City and was installed in 1999; two years later in 202001, the Reverend Dr. Oatis journeyed to Israel on a pilgrimage of consecration where he 21was baptized in the Jordan River, preached at the traditional site of Jesus' Sermon on the Page 1 of 2 HLS 161ES-212 ORIGINAL HR NO. 11 1Mount, and experienced the route of Christ Jesus from Pilate's judgment hall to Calvary 2through the streets of Jerusalem along the Via Dolorosa, three pinnacles of the Christian 3faith he so fervently practices; and 4 WHEREAS, the Reverend Dr. Charles Oatis, Sr., is married to his lovely wife 5Rolinda and is father to Charles Oatis, Jr., who has transitioned to his heavenly home, and 6to Rachel and Jordan Oatis; and 7 WHEREAS, while admirably executing his responsibilities as a human resources 8manager for the Louisiana House of Representatives, Dr. Oatis steadfastly leads the flock 9of his appointment at Mount Esther Baptist Church of Morgan City, and it is appropriate to 10honor this man of God upon his seventeenth pastoral anniversary. 11 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 12Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Reverend Doctor Charles Oatis, Sr., 13upon the celebration of seventeen years of committed and faithful service as pastor of Mount 14Esther Baptist Church of Morgan City; does hereby recognize his labor of love and 15dedication to the work of the Gospel; and does hereby extend sincere prayers for continued 16fruitful harvest in the fields of the Lord. 17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted 18to the Rev.
