ENROLLED 2016 First Extraordinary Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 11 BY REPRESENTATIVE JONES A RESOLUTION To commend the Reverend Doctor Charles Oatis, Sr., upon the seventeenth anniversary of his pastorate of New Mount Esther Baptist Church of Morgan City. WHEREAS, Charles Oatis was baptized at Greater Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church of Donaldsonville in 1976; in 1991, he was licensed to preach, and ordination to the ministry soon followed in 1994; and WHEREAS, Rev. Oatis matriculated at Nicholls State University, Southern University, Union Baptist College and Theological Seminary of New Orleans, and received his doctorate of theology from Christian Bible College of Baton Rouge; and WHEREAS, throughout the course of his ministry, the Reverend Dr. Oatis has labored untiringly in his Master's vineyard, sowing seeds of learning as Sunday school superintendent, Bible study instructor, associate minister, deacon class instructor, pastor support chairperson, and Christian education workshop coordinator; and WHEREAS, his life's work is not contained only within the realm of religion: Dr. Oatis has been a member of the city of Donaldsonville Charter Commission, the Capital Regional Planning Commission, the Southern University Master of Public Administration Association, the Omicron Psi Lambda graduate chapter, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity; and WHEREAS, in 1998, the Reverend Dr. Charles Oatis, Sr., was elected pastor of New Mount Esther Baptist Church of Morgan City and was installed in 1999; two years later in 2001, the Reverend Dr. Oatis journeyed to Israel on a pilgrimage of consecration where he was baptized in the Jordan River, preached at the traditional site of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, and experienced the route of Christ Jesus from Pilate's judgment hall to Calvary through the streets of Jerusalem along the Via Dolorosa, three pinnacles of the Christian faith he so fervently practices; and Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 11 ENROLLED WHEREAS, the Reverend Dr. Charles Oatis, Sr., is married to his lovely wife Rolinda and is father to Charles Oatis, Jr., who has transitioned to his heavenly home, and to Rachel and Jordan Oatis; and WHEREAS, while admirably executing his responsibilities as a human resources manager for the Louisiana House of Representatives, Dr. Oatis steadfastly leads the flock of his appointment at New Mount Esther Baptist Church of Morgan City, and it is appropriate to honor this man of God upon his seventeenth pastoral anniversary. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Reverend Doctor Charles Oatis, Sr., upon the celebration of seventeen years of committed and faithful service as pastor of New Mount Esther Baptist Church of Morgan City; does hereby recognize his labor of love and dedication to the work of the Gospel; and does hereby extend sincere prayers for continued fruitful harvest in the fields of the Lord.
