CONDOLENCES. Expresses condolences upon the death of State Representative Ronnie
Edwards.
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the
3 death of State Representative Ronnie Edwards.
4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that members of the
5 Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the passing of State Representative Ronnie Edwards
6 on February 24, 2016, after a courageous multi-year battle with pancreatic cancer, at age
7 sixty-three; and
8 WHEREAS, she was a devout Christian, wife of forty-five years to Oliver Edwards,
9 mother of two adult children, and grandmother to three; and
10 WHEREAS, during her battle with cancer, Representative Edwards never ceased to
11 conduct herself with dignity, strength, and compassion, and never wavered in her deep and
12 abiding faith; and
13 WHEREAS, Representative Edwards, a Democrat, was recently sworn into the
14 Louisiana Legislature after serving two terms as a member of the Baton Rouge Metro
15 Council; and
16 WHEREAS, while elected to her seat representing District 29 consisting of a portion
17 of East Baton Rouge and West Baton Rouge parishes in November 2015 and sworn in on
18 January 11, 2016, because of her health, she was never able to return to the State Capitol to

1 fulfill her duties; and
2 WHEREAS, Ronnie Edwards also worked in housing for the Urban Restoration
3 Enhancement Corporation; and
4 WHEREAS, she was well known for her passion for affordable housing and her
5 warm demeanor; and
6 WHEREAS, Representative Ronnie Edwards will be long remembered as a very
7 spiritual, quiet-spoken, and very gentle and kind person as well as for her commitment and
8 tireless effort to improve her community and this state; and
9 WHEREAS, although the death of Representative Ronnie Edwards has left a
10 tremendous void in her community, her memory shall live forever in the minds and hearts
11 of all who knew and loved her.
12 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
13 extend sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of State Representative Ronnie
14 Edwards, recognize and record for posterity her exceptional accomplishments and singular
15 contributions, and extend appreciation for the pride and honor that she brought to her family,
16 friends, community, and the state of Louisiana.
17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
18 Oliver Edwards, husband of Ronnie Edwards.
