CONDOLENCES:  Expresses condolences upon the death of Patrick R. "Pat" Pickens,
longtime facilities manager at the state capitol
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To express heartfelt condolences upon the death of Patrick R. "Pat" Pickens, longtime
3 facilities manager at the state capitol.
4 WHEREAS, it was with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the
5Louisiana Legislature learned of the death of Patrick R. "Pat" Pickens on Tuesday, June 7,
62016; and
7 WHEREAS, Pat was a graduate of Baton Rouge High School and Louisiana State
8University; and
9 WHEREAS, as a civil engineer, he worked for several state agencies; his longest
10tenure was spent at the Louisiana state capitol as the facilities manager; and
11 WHEREAS, Pat loved the capitol, and he always strived to maintain the historical
12integrity of the building; and
13 WHEREAS, Pat is truly missed by the members and staff of the legislature, many
14of whom were blessed to call him a friend, and he will always be remembered fondly for the
15genuine interest and regard he exhibited for those with whom he worked and for the diligent,
16consistent manner in which he provided invaluable assistance at the capitol day after day,
17year after year; and
18 WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his parents, Zedrick R. Pickens and
19Edwyne B. Pickens; and his brother, Frank R. O'Neill; and
20 WHEREAS, Pat is survived by his wife, Nancy "Jeanie" Pickens; his son, Robert L.
21Pickens and his wife Toby; his daughter, Robyn E. Pickens Richmond and her husband

1Dave; his grandchildren, Lucien, Keira, Rebecca, Grace, David, and Darren; and his
2brothers, James S. O'Neill, Jr., and Clyde B. O'Neill; and
3 WHEREAS, the debt of the people of Louisiana to Patrick R. "Pat" Pickens is indeed
4great, for he has left an indelible mark on the lives of not only those fortunate to know him
5but his influence will also be felt by all those who will walk the halls of the state capitol after
6him and feel the lasting impact of his wonderful legacy.
7 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the members of the Legislature of Louisiana
8does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of their dear friend
9Patrick R. "Pat" Pickens, who served with distinction as the facilities manager at the state
10capitol; does hereby recognize and record for posterity his significant contributions and his
11generosity and kindness; and does hereby express the deep regret of the entire legislative
12family upon the loss of this extraordinary gentleman.
13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
14to the family of Patrick R. "Pat" Pickens.
