COMMENDATIONS: Commends Janice Muturuh upon her selection as a representative
of Louisiana at the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend Janice Muturuh of Sulphur upon her selection as a representative of Louisiana
3 at the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress.
4 WHEREAS, the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership program (HOBY) was established
5in 1958 by the popular actor Hugh O'Brian following a visit to Africa where he was inspired
6after meeting with Dr. Albert Schweitzer to create an organization designed to encourage
7young people to take a leadership role in society and become catalysts for change; and
8 WHEREAS, the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress is held every year in
9conjunction with a major United States university, and the World Leadership Congress
10brings together young men and women from around the world for a weeklong intensive
11educational leadership conference; and
12 WHEREAS, Janice Muturuh was chosen to represent Louisiana in the Hugh O'Brian
13World Leadership Congress held in July 2015, at Loyola University Chicago; and
14 WHEREAS, at the World Leadership Congress, more than four hundred students
15from around the world assemble to learn firsthand about other cultures and opinions, form
16friendships, and exchange ideas in an environment where they can feel comfortable in open
17discussion with their peers, learning to voice how they have shaped and formed their own
18views about the role of leadership in society; and
19 WHEREAS, Hugh O'Brian believes the most important thing in education is to teach
20young people to think for themselves, and the more than three hundred seventy-five

1thousand HOBY alumni demonstrate how this belief has influenced and inspired young
2people to become more involved in their communities; and
3 WHEREAS, the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress seeks to inspire high
4school students to excel as leaders, using friendship with others as a catalyst for their
5learning experiences.
6 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
7Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Janice Muturuh of Sulphur
8upon her selection as a representative of Louisiana at the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership
9Congress in Chicago, Illinois, and does hereby recognize the pride and honor that this
10wonderful young woman brings to her family and friends, her school, her community, and
11state.
12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
13to Janice Muturuh.
