COMMENDATIONS: Commends Beatrice Jefferson Hill upon her ninetieth birthday
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend Beatrice Jefferson Hill, the matriarch of the Jefferson family, upon the
3 celebration of her ninetieth birthday.
4 WHEREAS, on the memorable and historic occasion of her ninetieth birthday, it is
5appropriate that sincere and heartfelt congratulations be extended to Beatrice Jefferson Hill,
6as her lifetime of outstanding devotion to her family and her community are commended and
7celebrated; and
8 WHEREAS, Ms. Hill was born on June 26, 1926, in Claiborne to Floyd Jefferson and
9Estella Gilbert, as the first of seven children; and
10 WHEREAS, Ms. Hill worked for Con Agra in Arcadia for many years and was an
11insurance agent for Memorial Life Insurance Company for twenty-five years; and
12 WHEREAS, she has a passion for cooking and baking and is one of the greatest
13cooks and pie bakers in the state of Louisiana; and
14 WHEREAS, Ms. Hill is the loving mother of three children: the first African
15American female bailiff in Bienville Parish, the first African American tax clerk for the town
16of Arcadia, and the first African American attorney for the towns of Simsboro and Arcadia
17and the current state representative for district number eleven; and
18 WHEREAS, she is also a proud grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-
19grandmother to five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-
20grandchildren; and

1 WHEREAS, she is the oldest member of Holland Grove Baptist, where she has
2distinguished herself as an exemplary and admired member; and
3 WHEREAS, Beatrice Jefferson Hill's fellow citizens hope that she is aware of how
4much pride and joy her long and wonderful life has brought to them; and
5 WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,
6and the overall vitality of American society depend in great measure upon people like
7Beatrice Jefferson Hill, an exceptional woman and inspiration to all.
8 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
9Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Beatrice Jefferson Hill upon the celebration
10of her ninetieth birthday; does hereby commend her because she exemplifies all that is good
11about Louisiana; and does hereby extend to her every good wish for health and happiness
12in the years to come.
13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
14to Beatrice Jefferson Hill.
