ENROLLED 2016 Second Extraordinary Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 21 BY REPRESENTATIVE JEFFERSON A RESOLUTION To commend Beatrice Jefferson Hill, the matriarch of the Jefferson family, upon the celebration of her ninetieth birthday. WHEREAS, on the memorable and historic occasion of her ninetieth birthday, it is appropriate that sincere and heartfelt congratulations be extended to Beatrice Jefferson Hill, as her lifetime of outstanding devotion to her family and her community are commended and celebrated; and WHEREAS, Ms. Hill was born on June 26, 1926, in Claiborne to Floyd Jefferson and Estella Gilbert, as the first of seven children; and WHEREAS, Ms. Hill worked for Con Agra in Arcadia for many years and was an insurance agent for Memorial Life Insurance Company for twenty-five years; and WHEREAS, she has a passion for cooking and baking and is one of the greatest cooks and pie bakers in the state of Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Ms. Hill is the loving mother of three children: the first African American female bailiff in Bienville Parish, the first African American tax clerk for the town of Arcadia, and the first African American attorney for the towns of Simsboro and Arcadia and the current state representative for district number eleven; and WHEREAS, she is also a proud grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great- grandmother to five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two great-great- grandchildren; and WHEREAS, she is the oldest member of Holland Grove Baptist, where she has distinguished herself as an exemplary and admired member; and Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 21 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Beatrice Jefferson Hill's fellow citizens hope that she is aware of how much pride and joy her long and wonderful life has brought to them; and WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of American society depend in great measure upon people like Beatrice Jefferson Hill, an exceptional woman and inspiration to all. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Beatrice Jefferson Hill upon the celebration of her ninetieth birthday; does hereby commend her because she exemplifies all that is good about Louisiana; and does hereby extend to her every good wish for health and happiness in the years to come.
