Wright, certified public accountant, upon his retirement. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To commend John W. Wright, certified public accountant, upon the occasion of his 3 retirement after a more than forty-year career in accounting. 4 WHEREAS, John Wright was born in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, and at the age of eight, 5 he moved with his family to make a new home in Lafayette, Louisiana; and 6 WHEREAS, John Wright spent the remainder of his childhood in Lafayette where 7 he attended Cathedral High School and graduated from Lafayette High School; and 8 WHEREAS, Mr. Wright graduated from the University of Louisiana Lafayette in 9 accounting and after graduation he was employed as a federal agent with the Internal 10 Revenue Service for the next five years; and 11 WHEREAS, upon his return to Lafayette after working for the Internal Revenue 12 Service, John Wright became one of the founding partners of the accounting firm Wright, 13 Moore, DeHart, Dupuis and Hutchinson, LLC, what has today become the largest and one 14 of the most respected accounting firms in the Acadiana region; and 15 WHEREAS, with his experience dealing with the Internal Revenue Service, Mr. 16 Wright came to the private practice of accounting with considerable expertise in all aspects 17 of federal income taxes and additional expertise in stockholder disputes, business 18 management decisions, and the valuation of businesses; and Page 1 of 3 SCR NO. 10 SLS 162ES-110 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, additionally, John Wright worked in aspects of family financial issues 2 including the division of marital assets and community property settlements and he has often 3 been called upon to testify in court as an expert in accounting relative to domestic issues; and 4 WHEREAS, beyond his work at his accounting firm, Mr. Wright has been an active 5 member of his profession and is currently a member of the Society of Louisiana Certified 6 Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants; and 7 WHEREAS, over the years of his professional practice, John Wright has served as 8 chairman of the consultation services committee and the Louisiana Tax Conference, and as 9 a member of the Taxation Committee of the Society of Louisiana Certified Public 10 Accountants; and 11 WHEREAS, throughout his adult years, John Wright has remained active in civic 12 organizations, including serving as a member of the University of Louisiana Lafayette 13 Alumni Association, currently a member of the board of trustees of the University of 14 Louisiana Lafayette Foundation, a former chairman of the United Way of Acadiana, and he 15 has served as chairman of the board of trustees of the Nature Conservancy of Louisiana; and 16 WHEREAS, currently, Mr. Wright is a member of the following: the Mardi Gras 17 organizations of the Krewe of Gabriel and the Krewe of Bonaparte, Ducks Unlimited, the 18 Coastal Conservation Association, and St. Pius Catholic Church; and 19 WHEREAS, John Wright takes great pleasure in his large, loving family, including 20 wife, Donna, children Jonathan and Elizabeth and, granddaughter London, as well as 21 stepsons Stephen and Kevin and their three children; and 22 WHEREAS, John Wright has served his family, his accounting firm, his profession, 23 his country, his church, and his community throughout a rewarding more than forty-year 24 career as a certified public accountant. 25 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 26 commend John W. Wright, certified public accountant, upon the occasion of his retirement 27 after a more than forty-year career in accounting. 28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 29 John W.
