SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 13

COMMENDAT IONS.  Commends Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. for 75 years of
continued service.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To commend and congratulate Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. for seventy-five years of
3 continuous service.
4 WHEREAS, Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (Air Products), a company that
5 supplies atmospheric, process and specialty gases, for effective solutions to energy,
6 environment and emerging market challenges, is celebrating seventy-five years of
7 continuous service; and 
8 WHEREAS, Leonard Parker Pool founded Air Products in 1940 in Detroit,
9 Michigan, on a simple but revolutionary idea: the "on-site" concept of producing and selling
10 industrial gases; and 
11 WHEREAS, World War II diverted the company's attention to the design and
12 manufacture of mobile generators to produce oxygen for use by the U.S. military and foreign
13 allies in high-altitude flights; and
14 WHEREAS, in support of America's emerging missile and space program, Air
15 Products built plants capable of producing tonnage quantities of liquid oxygen and nitrogen;
16 and
17 WHEREAS, in 1957, Air Products entered the international market for industrial
18 gases in Great Britain, and today operates in fifty countries around the world; and

1 WHEREAS, in 1965, Air Products established production of liquid hydrogen at a facility
2 east of New Orleans; and
3 WHEREAS, in 1975, Air Products was awarded a long-term contract from NASA
4 to supply liquid hydrogen to the United States' space shuttle program, which is produced at
5 the New Orleans facility; and
6 WHEREAS, Air Products is the leading global supplier of refinery hydrogen, helping
7 oil producers create cleaner burning fuels; and
8 WHEREAS, in 2005, Air Products' industrial gas complex in New Orleans, was
9 inundated with more than eight feet of water after Hurricane Katrina made landfall; and
10 WHEREAS, after ensuring its employees' safety, the company began draining the
11 facility and working to restore operations; and
12 WHEREAS, due to hardworking Air Products employees, operations were restored
13 in just over two months, helping to relieve a constrained liquid hydrogen market; and
14 WHEREAS, today, Air Products operates nineteen facilities in Louisiana, serving
15 a variety of industries in eleven parishes: Ascension, Calcasieu, East Baton Rouge, Iberville,
16 Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, and West
17 Baton Rouge; and
18 WHEREAS, since 2010, Air Products continues to invest in Louisiana, including
19 four major hydrogen plants along the Mississippi River from Baton Rouge to the Greater
20 New Orleans area; and
21 WHEREAS, those facilities connect to the company's hydrogen pipeline network
22 system, which is the largest in the world, running from the New Orleans region to the
23 Houston Ship Channel; and
24 WHEREAS, Air Products owes much of its seventy-five year success to the
25 know-how and innovative spirit of its twenty thousand employees worldwide as well as its
26 three hundred Louisiana employees.
27 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
28 does hereby commend and congratulate Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. for seventy-five
29 years of continuous service.
30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Air
