SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 13

A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. for seventy-five years of
continuous service.
WHEREAS, Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (Air Products), a company that
supplies atmospheric, process and specialty gases, for effective solutions to energy,
environment and emerging market challenges, is celebrating seventy-five years of
continuous service; and 
WHEREAS, Leonard Parker Pool founded Air Products in 1940 in Detroit,
Michigan, on a simple but revolutionary idea: the "on-site" concept of producing and selling
industrial gases; and 
WHEREAS, World War II diverted the company's attention to the design and
manufacture of mobile generators to produce oxygen for use by the U.S. military and foreign
allies in high-altitude flights; and
WHEREAS, in support of America's emerging missile and space program, Air
Products built plants capable of producing tonnage quantities of liquid oxygen and nitrogen;
and
WHEREAS, in 1957, Air Products entered the international market for industrial
gases in Great Britain, and today operates in fifty countries around the world; and
WHEREAS, in 1965, Air Products established production of liquid hydrogen at a facility
east of New Orleans; and
WHEREAS, in 1975, Air Products was awarded a long-term contract from NASA
to supply liquid hydrogen to the United States' space shuttle program, which is produced at
the New Orleans facility; and
WHEREAS, Air Products is the leading global supplier of refinery hydrogen, helping
oil producers create cleaner burning fuels; and

WHEREAS, in 2005, Air Products' industrial gas complex in New Orleans, was
inundated with more than eight feet of water after Hurricane Katrina made landfall; and
WHEREAS, after ensuring its employees' safety, the company began draining the
facility and working to restore operations; and
WHEREAS, due to hardworking Air Products employees, operations were restored
in just over two months, helping to relieve a constrained liquid hydrogen market; and
WHEREAS, today, Air Products operates nineteen facilities in Louisiana, serving
a variety of industries in eleven parishes: Ascension, Calcasieu, East Baton Rouge, Iberville,
Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, and West
Baton Rouge; and
WHEREAS, since 2010, Air Products continues to invest in Louisiana, including
four major hydrogen plants along the Mississippi River from Baton Rouge to the Greater
New Orleans area; and
WHEREAS, those facilities connect to the company's hydrogen pipeline network
system, which is the largest in the world, running from the New Orleans region to the
Houston Ship Channel; and
WHEREAS, Air Products owes much of its seventy-five year success to the
know-how and innovative spirit of its twenty thousand employees worldwide as well as its
three hundred Louisiana employees.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. for seventy-five
years of continuous service.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.
