Deshotels. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the 3 death of Carol Ann "C.A." Deshotels. 4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the citizens of Louisiana 5 learned of the death of Carol Ann "C.A." Deshotels on June 8, 2016, at the age of seventy- 6 two; and 7 WHEREAS, Carol Ann Deshotels, affectionately known as "C.A.", was born in Long 8 Beach, California, to James Hawkins and the former Carolyn Reed; and 9 WHEREAS, her family later moved to Shreveport where she graduated from Fair 10 Park High School; and 11 WHEREAS, following in the footsteps of her parents and the love they shared for 12 teaching, C.A. subsequently enrolled at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston and graduated 13 with a degree in elementary education; and 14 WHEREAS, it was there that she met the love of her life, Henri, and they married 15 in 1968 and later moved to Kaplan to begin their life together; and 16 WHEREAS, for twenty years, she enjoyed teaching at the elementary school level 17 and even though she was not a native of Kaplan, she embraced the community and gave it 18 her all; and Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 21 SLS 162ES-201 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, C.A. never met a stranger and lovingly cared for everyone, always 2 putting the needs of others before her own; and 3 WHEREAS, her infectious smile and laughter always filled every room she entered, 4 she had a warm and caring spirit, and she loved serving as the gracious hostess while 5 entertaining family and friends; and 6 WHEREAS, loving and living life to the fullest, she was constantly planning the next 7 trip or gathering; and 8 WHEREAS, C.A.'s love spread like wild flowers to her family, friends, and 9 community, and she touched the lives of so many with a profound and lasting impact; and 10 WHEREAS, she was a role model, a mentor, and an avid volunteer who practiced 11 what she preached by serving on the Board of Directors of the Kaplan Food Bank and as a 12 member of Chez Elles Women's Club for forty-five years, the Kaplan Garden Club, and the 13 Vermilion Parish Retired Teachers Association, as a charter member of the Kaplan Museum 14 Committee, a former member of Beta Sigma Phi Social Club, and a volunteer for many 15 community events and organizational activities; and 16 WHEREAS, Carol Ann "C.A." Deshotels is survived by her loving husband of forty- 17 seven years, O.H. "Henri" Deshotels; two daughters, Aimée D. Kane and Natalie 18 Montgomery Hargrave; one grandson, Thomas Montgomery; two step-grandchildren, 19 Stanton and Sophie Hargrave; two granddogs, Ellie and Callie; two sisters, Barbara 20 Crawford and Susan Breard; one brother, Robert Hawkins; and numerous nieces and 21 nephews; and 22 WHEREAS, she was preceded in death by her parents, James and Carolyn Reed 23 Hawkins; and 24 WHEREAS, Carol Ann "C.A." Deshotels was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, 25 grandmother, and dear friend who was admired by all whose lives she touched; and 26 WHEREAS, the death of Carol Ann "C.A." Deshotels has left a substantial void in 27 the Kaplan community and her memory shall live forever in the minds and hearts of all those 28 who knew and loved this remarkable lady. 29 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 30 does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Carol Ann "C.A."
