SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 4

SENATE.  Recognizes June 14, 2016, as National Flag Day and commends Louisiana
citizens for their military service.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To recognize June 14, 2016, as National Flag Day and to commend Louisiana citizens for
3 their military service.
4 WHEREAS, each year, National Flag Day is celebrated in the United States on the
5 fourteenth of June; and
6 WHEREAS, the American flag has been the national symbol for two hundred thirty-
7 nine years, and remains a beacon of freedom wherever it is flown; and
8 WHEREAS, Americans fly the flag to show their pride and appreciation for the
9 freedoms they enjoy and pledge their allegiance to the flag, and American troops carry it
10 before them as they defend the liberties for which it stands; and
11 WHEREAS, the citizens of Louisiana look forward to Flag Day every year as a day
12 on which to remember in a special way those in uniform whose courage and sacrifice inspire
13 them at home; and
14 WHEREAS, Representatives James K. Armes III, Stephen F. Carter, Kenny R. Cox,
15 Franklin J. Foil, Randal L. Gaines, Jerry Gisclair, Lowell C. Hazel, Frank A. Howard, Terry
16 C. Landry Sr., Jack Montoucet, and John Schroder Sr., and Senators Wesley T. Bishop,
17 James R. Fannin, and Gregory W. Tarver, and Governor John Bel Edwards have either
18 served in the past or are serving presently in the military; and

1 WHEREAS, on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, Senator Regina Ashford Barrow is hosting
2 her eleventh annual "Celebrating the Red, White, and Blue" National Flag Day celebration
3 with music, food, and fun; and
4 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize National Flag Day and to take this
5 opportunity to express enduring appreciation to all of Louisiana citizens who have served
6 or are serving in the military for the tremendous pride and honor they bring to the state of
7 Louisiana and the United States of America.
8 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
9 does hereby recognize June 14, 2016, as National Flag Day and does hereby commend
10 Louisiana citizens for their military service.
