HB 127 Original	2016 Regular Session	Stokes
Abstract:  Creates the "United States Merchant Marine Academy" special prestige license plate. 
Provides for fees, distribution of fees, issuance, creation, and design of the license plate and
promulgation of rules.
Proposed law requires the secretary of the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections to issue special
prestige license plates for the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
Proposed law provides the license plate shall be issued, upon application, to any graduate of the
United States Merchant Marine Academy who resides in Louisiana in the same manner as any other
motor vehicle license plate.
Proposed law requires the initial plate be reserved for purchase at the direction of the United States
Merchant Marine Academy KP New Orleans Alumni Chapter.
Proposed law requires the department to collect an annual royalty fee of $25, as well as a handling
fee of $3.50 for each plate, to be retained by the department to offset a portion of administrative
costs.
Proposed law requires the monies collected by the department be forwarded to the United States
Merchant Marine Academy KP New Orleans Alumni Chapter or its successor organization.
