HOUSE BILL NO. 128

MTR VEHICLE/LICEN PLATES:  Adds requirements to qualify for a commissioned police
officer special prestige license plate
1	AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 47:463.111(A) and (B), relative to special prestige license plates
3 issued to commissioned police officers; to provide for changes to the eligibility
4 requirements for a commissioned police officer special prestige license plate; and to
5 provide for related matters.
6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1.  R.S. 47:463.111(A) and (B) are hereby amended and reenacted to read
8as follows:
9 ยง463.111.  Special prestige license plates; commissioned police officer
10	A.  The secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections shall
11 design and establish a special prestige license plate for active commissioned police
12 officers, provided there is a minimum of one thousand applicants for such plate.  The
13 license plate shall be restricted to passenger cars, pickup trucks, vans, and
14 recreational vehicles.
15	B.  Each person who applies for the issuance or renewal of the prestige
16 license plate shall present to the secretary proof of prior or active commission in a
17 law enforcement agency for at least two consecutive years. the following to the
18 secretary in order to qualify for the plate:
19	(1)  A statement on letterhead from the chief official of the employing law
20 enforcement agency stating that the applicant has an active commission in that law

1 enforcement agency at the time of application and has held such commission for at
2 least two consecutive years.
3	(2)  Proof of Police Officer Standards Training completion.

Abstract:  Changes the eligibility requirements for a commissioned police officer special
prestige license plate.
Present law requires the secretary of the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections to design and
establish a special prestige license plate for commissioned police officers, provided there is
a minimum of 1,000 applicants for such plate.
Proposed law adds that the special prestige plate shall be for active commissioned police
officers.
Present law requires each person who applies for the issuance or renewal of the prestige
license plate shall present to the secretary proof of prior or active commission in a law
enforcement agency for at least two consecutive years.
Proposed law requires the following to be submitted to the secretary in order to qualify for
the plate:
(1)A statement on letterhead from the chief official of the employing law enforcement
agency stating that the applicant has an active commission in that law enforcement
agency at the time of application and has held such commission for at least two
consecutive years.
