Abstract:  Provides that bond, tax, and other proposition elections may only be held on
gubernatorial or congressional election dates.
Present law (R.S. 18:402(F)—Election Code) provides alternative dates on which bond, tax, and
other proposition elections may be held.  Provides that such elections may be held on the primary
and general election dates for gubernatorial (third to last Sat. in Oct. or the fifth Sat. thereafter in
2019 and every four years thereafter) and congressional elections (first Tues. after the first Mon. in
Nov. or the fifth Sat. thereafter in even-numbered years).  (The congressional general date is not
available in Orleans Parish for parcel fee elections involving neighborhood security districts.)
Proposed law retains present law.
Present law additionally provides that a bond, tax, and other proposition election may be held on the
following dates:
(1)The last Sat. in March or the fifth Sat. after the last Sat. in March of any year or the first Sat.
in March or the fifth Sat. after the first Sat. in March during the presidential election year.
(2)The second Sat. in Oct. or the fifth Sat. after the second Sat. in Oct. of 1985 and every fourth
year thereafter.
(3)For a parish containing a municipality with a population of 300,000 or more, the second Sat.
in Oct. or the fifth Sat. after the second Sat. in Oct. in 2017 and every fourth year thereafter.
Proposed law repeals present law.
(Repeals R.S. 18:402(F)(3), (4), and (6))
