HOUSE BILL NO. 179

HUNTING:  Adds "blaze pink" as an alternative to the hunter orange requirements
1	AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 56:143(A) and to enact R.S. 56:8(14.1), relative to requirements
3 of hunters during open gun season; to add "blaze pink" as an alternative to the
4 "hunter orange" requirements; and to provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1.  R.S. 56:143(A) is hereby amended and reenacted and R.S. 56:8(14.1) is
7hereby enacted to read as follows:
8 §8.  Definitions
9	For purposes of this Chapter, the following words and phrases have the
10 meaning ascribed to them in this Section, unless the context clearly shows a different
11 meaning:

13	(14.1)  "Blaze pink" means a daylight fluorescent pink color.

15 §143.  "Hunter orange" or "blaze pink" display by hunters with guns
16	A.  Any person hunting any wildlife during the open gun deer hunting season
17 and possessing buckshot, slugs, a muzzleloader, or a centerfire rifle shall display on
18 his head, chest, or back a total of not less than four hundred square inches of material
19 of a daylight fluorescent orange color known as "hunter orange" or a daylight
20 florescent pink color known as "blaze pink".  Persons hunting on privately owned,

1 legally posted land may wear a cap or a hat that is completely covered with hunter
2 orange or blaze pink material in lieu of the foregoing requirement to display four
3 hundred square inches of hunter orange or blaze pink.  These provisions shall not
4 apply to persons hunting deer from elevated stands on property which is privately
5 owned and legally posted, or to archery deer hunters hunting on legally posted land
6 where firearm hunting is not permitted by agreement of the owner or lessee.

Present law requires any person hunting any wildlife during the open gun season to display
not less than 400 sq. inches of "hunter orange".  Allows a hunter orange hat as an alternative
to the 400 sq. inch requirement.
Proposed law adds "blaze pink" as an alternative to hunter orange.  Defines "blaze pink" as
a daylight florescent pink color.
