HLS 16RS-479 ENGROSSED 2016 Regular Session HOUSE BILL NO. 225 BY REPRESENTATIVE MORENO MTR VEHICLE/LICEN PLATES: Provides for the creation of the Krewe of NYX prestige license plate 1 AN ACT 2To enact R.S. 47:463.188, relative to motor vehicle special prestige license plates; to provide 3 for the "Krewe of NYX" special prestige license plate; to provide for creation, 4 issuance, and design of such license plates; to provide relative to the fee and 5 distribution of fees for such plates; to authorize the promulgation of rules and 6 regulations relative to the creation and implementation of a special prestige license 7 plate; and to provide for related matters. 8Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 9 Section 1. R.S. 47:463.188 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 10 ยง463.188. Special prestige license plates; "Krewe of NYX" 11 A. The secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections shall 12 establish a special prestige motor vehicle license plate to be known as the "Krewe 13 of NYX" plate, provided there is a minimum of one thousand applicants for such 14 plates. The license plates shall be restricted to use on passenger cars, pickup trucks, 15 recreational vehicles, and vans. 16 B. The secretary shall work in conjunction with the captain of the Krewe of 17 NYX to select the color and design of the plate, provided it is in compliance with 18 R.S. 47:463(A)(3). 19 C. The special prestige license plate shall be issued, upon application, to any 20 citizen of Louisiana in the same manner as any other motor vehicle license plate. The department shall collect an annual royalty fee of twenty-five dollars 2 that shall be disbursed in accordance with Subsection E of this Section. This fee 3 shall be in addition to the standard motor vehicle license tax imposed by Article VII, 4 Section 5 of the Constitution of Louisiana, and a handling fee of three dollars and 5 fifty cents for each plate to be retained by the department to offset a portion of 6 administrative costs. 7 E. The annual royalty fee shall be collected by the department and forwarded 8 to the Krewe of NYX. The monies received from the royalty fees shall be used 9 solely for the activities of the Krewe of NYX. 10 F.
