HB 246 Engrossed	2016 Regular Session	Adams
Abstract: Provides an extension for coroners to report to the Department of Public Safety and
Corrections and to the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission the death of any person as a
result of a collision involving a motor vehicle and the circumstances surrounding it.
Present law requires a coroner to present a report within five days to the Dept. of Public Safety and
Corrections and to the La. Hwy. Safety Commission regarding the death of any person as a result of
an accident involving a motor vehicle and the circumstances surrounding it.
Proposed law modifies present law by increasing the time period for reporting from five days to 60
days. Also, modifies present law by replacing the word "accident" with "collision".
Present law requires every hospital to notify the coroner of the parish in which it is located of any
death occurring in the hospital as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
Proposed law repeals the present law notification requirement.
