WEAPONS/FIREARMS:  Provides with respect to cost of concealed handgun permit for
veterans
1	AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 40:1379.3(W), relative to concealed handgun permits; to provide
3 for an exemption from fees for veterans of the United States Armed Forces; and to
4 provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1.  R.S. 40:1379.3(W) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 
7 ยง1379.3.  Statewide permits for concealed handguns; application procedures;

10	W.(1)  Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, an active duty
11 member, or reserve member, or veteran of the armed forces of the United States shall
12 pay one half of the annual fee provided for in Paragraph (H)(2) of this Section for a
13 five-year permit, or if applying for a lifetime concealed handgun permit, he shall
14 prepay that fee for a total of ten years at the time the application for the lifetime
15 concealed handgun permit is made.
16	(2)  A veteran of the armed forces of the United States shall be exempt from
17 all fees associated with the five-year permit or lifetime concealed carry permit.

1	(2)(3)  For the purposes of this Subsection, "veteran" shall mean any
2 honorably discharged veteran of the armed forces of the United States including
3 reserve components of the armed forces, the Army National Guard, the Air National
4 Guard, the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, and any other category
5 of persons designated by the president in time of war or emergency.

Abstract: Exempts veterans of the armed forces from concealed handgun permit fees.
Present law provides for the issuance of concealed handgun permits and provides fees for
those permits.
Present law provides that U.S. armed forces veterans pay one-half of the fees associated with
obtaining a concealed handgun permit.
Proposed law changes present law to exempt veterans of the U.S. armed forces from all fees
associated with concealed handgun permits.
