HOUSE BILL NO. 357

TRANSPORTATION:  Provides relative to funds to be utilized for state rail freight service
assistance
1	AN ACT
2To repeal R.S. 48:388(F), relative to rail; to provide relative to assistance for rail service; to
3 provide for an effective date; and to provide for related matters.
4Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
5 Section 1.  R.S. 48:388(F) is hereby repealed in its entirety.
6 Section 2.  This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not
7signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature
8by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana.  If
9vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become
10effective on the day following such approval.

Abstract:  Removes a provision allowing the Freight Railroad Intermodal Grant Program
to operate for only 10 years and permits the use of Transportation Trust Fund monies
for the grant program.
Present law provides for the Freight Railroad Intermodal Grant Program (program) within
the Dept. of Transportation and Development.
Proposed law retains present law.

Present law requires the program to be implemented not later than Jan. 1, 1998, for a 10-year
period and to be evaluated at the end of that period.
Proposed law repeals present law.
Present law prohibits the use of Transportation Trust Fund monies for the grant program.
Proposed law removes the prohibition and permits the use of Transportation Trust Fund
monies for the grant program.
Effective upon signature of governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
