R.S. 33:3819(K) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 7 ยง3819. Meetings of commissioners; meeting place; absences; compensation 8 * * * 9 K. Notwithstanding the provisions of Subsection A of this Section, the parish 10 governing authority of any parish with a population of not less than twenty thousand 11 persons and not more than twenty thousand five hundred persons may authorize the 12 parish treasurer to pay the commissioners of the waterworks districts a per diem not 13 to exceed one hundred twenty dollars for attending meetings of the board for a 14 maximum of twenty-four meetings per year and for each special meeting not to 15 exceed twelve special meetings per year. Present law authorizes parishes to create waterworks districts, which have control of water systems in the respective districts. Provides for meetings of the board of commissioners of any such district. Proposed law retains present law. Present law authorizes the parish governing authority to fix the per diem to be paid to commissioners in an amount not to exceed $60 for each meeting attended, up to 24 regular meetings and 12 special meetings in a year. Proposed law increases the maximum per diem to $120 for commissioners of waterworks districts in a parish with a population of not less than 20,000 and not more than 20,500 persons.
