HOUSE BILL NO. 383

DISTRICTS/WATERWORKS:  Provides relative to the per diem paid to members of the
board of commissioners of waterworks districts located in certain parishes
1	AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 33:3819(K), relative to waterworks districts; to provide with respect to the per
3 diem paid to members of the board of commissioners of districts located in certain
4 parishes; and to provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1.  R.S. 33:3819(K) is hereby enacted to read as follows:
7 ยง3819.  Meetings of commissioners; meeting place; absences; compensation

9	K.  Notwithstanding the provisions of Subsection A of this Section, the parish
10 governing authority of any parish with a population of not less than twenty thousand
11 persons and not more than twenty thousand five hundred persons according to the
12 latest federal decennial census may authorize the parish treasurer to pay the
13 commissioners of the waterworks districts a per diem not to exceed one hundred
14 twenty dollars for attending meetings of the board for a maximum of twenty-four
15 meetings per year and for each special meeting not to exceed twelve special meetings
16 per year.

Abstract:  Increases the maximum amount of per diem paid to members of the board of
commissioners of waterworks districts located in certain parishes.
Present law authorizes parishes to create waterworks districts, which have control of water
systems in the respective districts.  Provides for meetings of the board of commissioners of
any such district.
Proposed law retains present law.
Present law authorizes the parish governing authority to fix the per diem to be paid to
commissioners in an amount not to exceed $60 for each meeting attended, up to 24 regular
meetings and 12 special meetings in a year.
Proposed law increases the maximum per diem to $120 for commissioners of waterworks
districts in a parish with a population of not less than 20,000 and not more than 20,500
persons.
