HB 389 Original 2016 Regular Session Jones
Abstract: Increases the territorial jurisdiction of the City Court of the town of Franklin.
Present law provides for the territorial jurisdiction of the City Court of the town of Franklin.
Provides that the territorial jurisdiction of the court extends throughout the town of Franklin and
throughout the whole of Ward Three of St. Mary Parish.
Proposed law retains present law and additionally provides that the territorial jurisdiction of the court
extends throughout the portions of Ward Ten of St. Mary Parish that are east of the Charenton
Drainage and Navigation Canal and south of Bayou Teche. Provides further that in such portions
of Ward Ten that are outside of the town of Franklin, the court shall have jurisdiction concurrent
with the justice of the peace in those cases in which the justice of the peace would have jurisdiction.
