Existing law defines "adjusted gross income" for purposes of calculating child support
obligations.
Prior law included in this definition gross income, minus amounts paid for preexisting
spousal support or child support who is not a party to the proceedings or on behalf of a minor
child who is not the subject of a support action before the court.
New law gives the court discretion to consider, when calculating adjusted gross income, an
amount paid toward the support of a minor child who is not the subject of an action before
the court.
Effective August 1, 2016.
