HLS 16RS-324 ORIGINAL 2016 Regular Session HOUSE BILL NO. 44 BY REPRESENTATIVE STOKES COURTS/MAYORS: Provides relative to the mayor's court for the city of Kenner 1 AN ACT 2To enact R.S. 33:447.15, relative to mayor's courts; to provide for additional court costs for 3 violations of municipal ordinances in the mayor's court of the city of Kenner; to 4 provide for the use of additional funds; and to provide for related matters. 5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 6 Section 1. R.S. 33:447.15 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 7 ยง447.15. Mayor's court; city of Kenner; additional court costs 8 Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, the mayor of the 9 city of Kenner may also impose additional court costs not to exceed thirty dollars for 10 each offense, as defined by ordinance, on any defendant convicted of a violation of 11 a municipal ordinance. Any additional amount in court costs collected pursuant to 12 this Section shall be allocated to the city of Kenner to be used for the mayor's court 13 security enhancements and technological upgrades. HLS 16RS-324 ORIGINAL HB NO. 44 Present law (R.S. 33:441) authorizes a mayor, as the presiding officer of a mayor's court, to impose court costs, not to exceed $30 for each offense, on any defendant convicted of a violation of a municipal ordinance. Proposed law authorizes the mayor for the city of Kenner to impose additional court costs not to exceed $30 for each offense on any defendant convicted of a violation of a municipal ordinance and further. Proposed law further requires that the additional costs be used for security enhancements and technological upgrades for the mayor's court for the city of Kenner.
