INSURANCE/GROUP-SHERI FFS:  Amends provisions relative to group insurance
premiums for retirees of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office
1	AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 13:5554(G)(5), relative to payment for certain benefits for retirees from the
3 Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office; to provide for the qualification for and payment of
4 certain insurance premiums; and to provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1.  R.S. 13:5554(G)(5) is hereby enacted to read as follows:

11	(5)  In addition to the provisions of Paragraph (1) of this Subsection, in the
12 parish of Calcasieu, one hundred percent of the premium costs of group hospital,
13 surgical, medical expense, and dental insurance and the first ten thousand dollars of
14 life insurance contracted for under the provisions of this Section shall be paid in full
15 from the sheriff's general fund for any sheriff and full-time deputy sheriff who has
16 retired from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office and who is entitled to receive
17 monthly benefits from the Sheriffs' Pension and Relief Fund and who has at least
18 eight of the required fifteen or thirty years of full-time creditable service with the
19 Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office.

Abstract:  Requires retirees of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office to have at least eight of
the required 15 or 30 years of full-time creditable service with the Calcasieu Parish
Sheriff's Office in order to have the premiums for certain health and life insurance
benefits paid from the sheriff's general fund.
Present law provides that the premium costs of group hospital, surgical, medical expense,
and dental insurance and the first $10,000 of life insurance contracted for under the
provisions of present law shall be paid in full from the sheriff's general fund for all sheriffs
and deputy sheriffs retired with at least 15 years of service who are at least 55 years of age
or retired with at least 30 years of service at any age.
Present law is applicable  only to the sheriffs' offices of the parishes of Acadia, Allen,
Avoyelles, Beauregard, Bossier, Caddo, Calcasieu, Caldwell, Cameron, Catahoula,
Concordia, East Feliciana, Grant, Iberville, Jackson, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, Lincoln,
Livingston, Morehouse, Natchitoches, Pointe Coupee, Rapides, Red River, St. Bernard, St.
James, St. Martin, Tangipahoa, Union, Vermilion, Vernon, Washington, West Baton Rouge,
West Carroll, and West Feliciana and the sheriff of the Civil District Court of the parish of
Orleans, for their respective retirees.
Proposed law retains present law but provides that in the parish of Calcasieu, 100% of the
premium costs of group hospital, surgical, medical expense, and dental insurance and the
first $10,000 of life insurance shall be paid in full from the sheriff's general fund for any
sheriff and full-time deputy sheriff who has:
(1)Retired from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office and who is entitled to receive
monthly benefits from the Sheriffs' Pension and Relief Fund.
(2)At least eight of the required 15 or 30 years of full-time creditable service with the
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office.
