ACT 120 (HB 530) 2016 Regular Session	Dwight
Existing law provides that the premium costs of group hospital, surgical, medical expense,
and dental insurance and the first $10,000 of life insurance shall be paid in full from the
sheriff's general fund for all sheriffs and deputy sheriffs retired with at least 15 years of
service who are at least 55 years of age or retired with at least 30 years of service at any age.
Existing law is applicable  only to the sheriffs' offices of the parishes of Acadia, Allen,
Avoyelles, Beauregard, Bossier, Caddo, Calcasieu, Caldwell, Cameron, Catahoula,
Concordia, East Feliciana, Grant, Iberville, Jackson, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, Lincoln,
Livingston, Morehouse, Natchitoches, Pointe Coupee, Rapides, Red River, St. Bernard, St.
James, St. Martin, Tangipahoa, Union, Vermilion, Vernon, Washington, West Baton Rouge,
West Carroll, and West Feliciana and the sheriff of the Civil District Court of the parish of
Orleans, for their respective retirees.
New law retains existing law and also provides that in the parish of Calcasieu, 100% of the
premium costs of group hospital, surgical, medical expense, and dental insurance and the
first $10,000 of life insurance shall be paid in full from the sheriff's general fund for any
sheriff and full-time deputy sheriff who has:
(1)Retired from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office and who is entitled to receive
monthly benefits from the Sheriffs' Pension and Relief Fund.
(2)At least eight of the required 15 or 30 years of full-time creditable service with the
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office.
Effective August 1, 2016.
