HB 569 Engrossed	2016 Regular Session	Schexnayder
Abstract: Removes references to sections of the Federal Meat Inspection Act and the Federal
Products Inspection Act that have been repealed. Removes the East Baton Rouge Parish
Health Unit from present law due to the lack of a city or parish meat inspection program.
Present law references Sections 114 and 114a of the Federal Meat Inspection Act and Section 467
of the Federal Poultry Products Inspection Act.
Proposed law removes these references as they have been repealed.
Present law specifies that the commission, in a cooperative effort with the secretary of agriculture
of the U.S., is authorized to accept assistance from the secretary in planning or developing a state
meat inspection program.
Proposed law specifies that the commissioner of agriculture instead of the commission, has the
authority to enter into a cooperative effort with the secretary.
Present law provides for the East Baton Rouge Parish Health Unit's meat inspection program and
its designation as a part of the state agency insofar as said meat inspection program is concerned.
Proposed law removes the East Baton Rouge Parish Health Unit from present law due to the lack
of a city or parish meat inspection program.
