RÉSUMÉ DIGEST ACT 256 (HB 569) 2016 Regular Session Schexnayder Prior law referenced Sections 114 and 114a of the Federal Meat Inspection Act and Section 467 of the Federal Poultry Products Inspection Act. New law removes these references as they have been repealed. Existing law specifies that the commissioner, in a cooperative effort with the secretary of agriculture of the U.S., is authorized to accept assistance from the secretary in planning or developing a state meat inspection program. New law specifies that the commissioner of agriculture, instead of the commission, has the authority to enter into a cooperative effort with the secretary. Prior law provided for the East Baton Rouge Parish Health Unit's meat inspection program and its designation as a part of the state agency insofar as said meat inspection program is concerned. New law removes the prior law provision referencing the East Baton Rouge Parish Health Unit due to the lack of a city or parish meat inspection program. Effective August 1, 2016. (Amends R.S. 3:4222(A) and (B); Repeals R.S. 3:4222(D))
