R.S. 32:386(L) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 7 ยง386. Weight 8 * * * 9 L.(1) Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, a vehicle that is 10 operated by an engine fueled primarily by compressed or liquified natural gas may 11 exceed the gross vehicle weight limits and any axle weight limits imposed by this 12 Subpart by an amount, not to exceed a maximum of two thousand pounds, that is 13 equal to the difference between the weight of the vehicle attributable to the natural 14 gas tank and fueling system carried by the vehicle and the weight of a comparable 15 diesel tank and fueling system. 16 (2) The weight exception provided in this Subsection shall apply to all state 17 roads and interstate highways per the exemption expressly permitted by 23 U.S.C. 18 127, as amended by Section 1410 of the Fixing America's Surface Transportation 19 Act of 2015. Present law provides that the total gross weight of any vehicle or combination of vehicles shall not exceed a certain amount. Proposed law provides an exception to present law that allows for a vehicle, if operated by an engine fueled primarily by compressed or liquified natural gas, to exceed this limitation by up to 2,000 lbs. Proposed law specifies that the weight exception provided in proposed law applies to all state roads and interstate highways per the exemption expressly permitted by federal law.
