HOUSE BILL NO. 652

SCHOOLS/CHARTER:  Requires virtual charter schools to submit student addresses to
local school systems for verification
1	AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 17:3995.1, relative to virtual charter schools; to require virtual charter schools
3 to submit student addresses to city, parish, and other local public school boards for
4 verification; to provide for per pupil funding amounts for certain students enrolled
5 in virtual charter schools; and to provide for related matters.
6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1. R.S. 17:3995.1 is hereby enacted to read as follows:
8 ยง3995.1.  Virtual charter schools; student addresses; verification; per pupil amounts
9	A virtual charter school shall submit the address for each student applying for
10 admission to the virtual charter school to the city, parish, or other local public school
11 board of the school system in which the student would otherwise attend school for
12 verification that the address is in the school district by the local school board.  If the
13 local board is unable to verify the address for a student or the virtual charter school
14 fails to submit the address as required in this Section, then the per pupil amount
15 provided to the virtual charter school for that student through the minimum
16 foundation program formula shall be  one thousand five hundred dollars.

Abstract:  Requires virtual charter schools to submit student addresses to local public
school boards for verification.
Proposed law requires each virtual charter school to submit the address for each student
applying for admission to the virtual charter school to the local public school board of the
school system in which the student would otherwise attend school for verification by the
local school board.  Provides that if the local board is unable to verify a student's address for
or the virtual charter school fails to submit the address, then the per pupil amount provided
to the virtual charter school for that student through the minimum foundation program
formula shall be $1,500.
