Abstract:  Places Jefferson Parish within both the Port of New Orleans and the Port of South
Louisiana.
Present law creates the Port of New Orleans and includes Jefferson Parish within the port
geographical jurisdiction.  Present law also creates the Port of South Louisiana consisting of St.
Charles Parish, St. John the Baptist Parish, and St. James Parish.
Proposed law keeps Jefferson Parish within the Port of New Orleans but also adds it to the Port of
South Louisiana and provides that regulation of commerce and traffic including international
commerce within Jefferson Parish shall be governed by the Port of South Louisiana.
